Several Miami Dolphins crawled across the field after practice Tuesday — not due to exhaustion, but because they were looking for a diamond earring.

In case you missed it, Head & Shoulders announced Monday it has taken out a $1 million insurance policy on Pittsburgh Steelers safety Tory Polamalu’s hair.

That got me thinking about some offbeat items to insure in the AFC East.

Tom Brady‘s cleft?

LaDainian Tomlinson‘s remaining burst?

Marshawn Lynch‘s grill?

Bill Belichick’s hoodies?

Rex Ryan’s throat?

Channing Crowder‘s sarcasm?

Jason Taylor‘s sequins?

Richie Incognito‘s breakables?

Trent Edwards‘ psyche?

Monday, we asked you if it was time to panic in Chicago. Tuesday, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler graciously offered his own answer.

Cutler

Cutler

“Is there reason for concern? Maybe. Maybe not,” Cutler told Chicago-area reporters. “I’m not concerned. I don’t think anybody in that locker room is really concerned about where we’re at. I think we’re happy with where we’re at. There’s room to improve, absolutely, but I think we’ll be ready Week 1.”

I’m not sure what else Cutler could say at this point. He might as well try to make the best of what has been a trying situation. And it’s not as if he’s in denial; I thought Cutler offered some blunt and honest assessments later in his interview session.

Most notably, Cutler acknowledged the near-desperate timetable the Bears have placed on the installation of their scheme. Asked if the offense will be ready for the Sept. 12 opener against the Detroit Lions, Cutler said:

“We don’t have a choice. We’ve got to go out there and do everything we’re supposed to do and execute. Guys don’t want to make mistakes. They want to be perfect. And I think in that third game [of the preseason] we put a lot of pressure on them of just going out there and treating it exactly like a game, and we had to do everything right.

“This was a last dress rehearsal, and we had to put on a good performance. The guys were a little bit tense. They’re trying not to make mistakes, and they’re trying hard. It’s not because of a lack of effort. We’re just still learning a little bit.”

When discussing Mike Martz’s arrival over the winter, I suggested this scheme gave the Bears their best chance for a quick fix on offense. It’s fair to question whether the repair job will be complete by Week 1, but I’m nowhere close to changing my mind on the longer-term prospects for this offense. A Mike Martz offense has never gone through a regular season as discombobulated as the Bears appear to be at this moment.
