DENVER — Here are some pregame notes.
New Denver cornerback Ty Law is active and expected to play some. He signed with Denver on Saturday.
Pittsburgh linebacker Lawrence Timmons is out with an ankle sprain. He is being replaced by Keyaron Fox.
Defensive end Travis Kirschke is out with a calf injury. He is being replaced by Nick Eason.
Denver fullback Peyton Hillis is out for family reasons.
Denver tackle Ryan Harris is out with a toe injury. Second-year tackle Tyler Polumbus is making his first start.
Denver defensive lineman Ryan McBean is out with a knee injury. He is being replaced by LeKevin Smith.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is in Denver. He visited the Broncos’ facility Monday.
Minor point about the fact that Pittsburgh has not won during the regular season in Denver since 1990. The Steelers won in Denver in the 2005 AFC title game.
The Broncos huddled near where Pittsburgh was stretching about a half hour before the game. Denver did the same thing three weeks ago in San Diego. Pushing and shoving ensued. Pittsburgh’s players didn’t seem to mind it tonight.

If you’ve watched ESPNEWS at all Monday, you’ve seen the footage of Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall on the Falcons’ sideline surrounded by players and coaches during a confrontation. Hall, who says he arrived on the sideline to help teammate LaRon Landry, has accused Falcons coach Mike Smith of coming “over there to put his hands on [Hall] in a harmful way.”
The NFL is reviewing the altercation and I’m sure we’ll be hearing about some fines this week. It all started when Landry was flagged for hitting quarterback Matt Ryan out of bounds. In a matter of moments, Hall arrived on the sideline and was surrounded by Falcons. After the game, he told reporters that he intended to contact NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to tell his side of the story.
On Monday, Redskins coach Jim Zorn had Hall’s back, saying the video footage seemed to back up the cornerback’s version of the events.
“I read what he said, and it looked to me on video it’s exactly what happened,” Zorn said. “We were penalized, and what he was trying to do was get LaRon off the sideline and LaRon was going and he got grabbed. I think there was emotion involved because their player just got hit out of bounds, the quarterback. That’s a tough deal in itself. The emotion rose, and he was the only guy in there. I was really actually proud of DeAngelo for keeping his composure.”
This Redskins team has been surrounded by controversy throughout the season. At least this gives them something to talk about other than their 2-6 record. I watched most of the first half of the Falcons game Sunday and that’s as poorly as I’ve seen an offensive line play. Good for offensive line coach Joe Bugel for getting in his players’ faces at halftime and inspiring them to have a better second half. It would’ve been easy to roll over in the second half, but the Redskins actually made a game of it.
It was a heroic effort by banged-up quarterback Jason Campbell, who’s basically auditioning for other teams right now. I can’t help but wonder how good Campbell could be if he worked under someone such as the Falcons’ Mike Mularkey or the Chargers’ Norv Turner.

CINCINNATI — There was a celebratory mood inside the Bengals’ locker room Sunday evening with the exception of one player: Chris Henry.

Chris Henry suffered a broken forearm in Sunday’s win over the Ravens. |
Cincinnati’s receiver tried to put a good face on the situation. The Bengals (6-2) picked up a huge win to sweep the division rival Baltimore Ravens (4-4). But inside, Henry was dealing with the harsh reality of a broken forearm that will end his 2009 season. He was placed on injured reserve on Monday.
“I’ve been trying to ask people what happened,” Henry said solemnly. “I just know when I tried to get up my arm was broken.”
Henry cut across the middle to make a reception when Ravens cornerback Fabian Washington tackled him. Henry then landed awkwardly on his arm and needed to be carted off the field.
Cincinnati has good depth at the receiver position.
Henry usually was the fourth option behind Chad Ochocinco, Laveranues Coles and Andre Caldwell. But Henry also was the team’s best deep threat. Other players such as Quan Cosby or former second-round draft pick Jerome Simpson will have to step up.
“It’s going to hurt,” quarterback Carson Palmer said of Henry’s absence. “He’s a big-play guy, a guy we depend on third down and expect to come through in a number of situations.”
